The Body Keeps the Score

Pregnancy is not limited to a physical experience - its effects reach to our mind, our emotions and our spirits!
But pregnancy is a HEAVY Physical experience! Your body is stretching and growing in ways it never has before. Your organs are being pushed aside to make room for your growing babe. Your body is demanding more caloric input as you are outputting hundreds of extra calories per day in the development of your "mini me."
Not to mention the nausea, vomiting, heart burn, complexion changes, stretch marks, round ligament pain, backaches, cramps, varicosities, frequent bathroom stops, and sleepless nights.
If you're working a job or chasing other kids your body experiences daily stress at an even deeper level!
In the psychological world, rapid changes to our body or environment are known to cause what's known as "little t Trauma." If these stressors build in a way that they are not honored or processed, they might start transferring the stress to our mind and emotions causing anxiety, depression, fear, and even panic.
We don't honor these hard parts of pregnancy! We are told (or tell ourselves) to gut it out, to be strong, that it's not really that bad! But this is denying the reality of our physical experience. And our bodies remember and will remind us later if we don't honor it now!
But the emotional effect of this physical change can be prevented by a few simple steps.
1. Tune into your body
2. Validate your body
3. Care for your body
Stay tuned the next few days as we look into how our body keep the score of pregnancy and how to walk through pregnancy in a whole and healthy way!
